An amazing variety of decorative forms and colors is the family of Amaranth. Each species of this large community is a whole world, fascinating and colorful.Today we will talk about one of the most interesting of its representatives - a plant called cetacea comb, whose bright decorativeness, multiplied by unpretentiousness, makes it possible to grow it on a garden plot, urban flower beds, in park areas and at home on a windowsill, decorating everyday everyday life with fireworks of colors and joy.
Description of the species
The genus of cetaceans is represented by almost sixty species of flowering plants. A native of the warm tropical regions of the African, Asian and American continents, cetacea excellently exists in the wild, and more recently in the garden culture. The most common is fusion of comb, cirrus or spikelet.
Despite the fact that this culture is usually long-term, in gardens of temperate Russian belts it is common as an annual, as severe winters do not leave her chances of survival. But as an indoor comb-plant the comb is excellent: almost undemanding to the conditions of growth, it blooms for a very long time. The stems of the plant are straight, strongly branched and densely leafy. Inflorescences consist of small flowers, collected in scallops of bizarre shapes and sizes. Separately note the colorfulness of these expressive colors. The palette of their shades is diverse - from light yellow to copper-golden, from pink and lilac to purple and orange. Seeds mature in a box-multisen. The culture blooms in June and continues until the very frost, and when grown indoors - until October-November.
Distinguished by its magnificent coloration and long flowering period, the plant is also valued by florists working with dry texture, since the combed seed cut before maturing and properly dried, does not lose color or shape. It is a win-win element in any composition. Dry flowers should be in a dark cool room, hanging them inflorescences down.
Subtlety of cultivation
In Russia, the flower is cultivated as a decorative annual, not only when grown outdoors on garden plots and flower beds. Experienced growers recommend and use the same algorithm of action in house breeding: after a long productive flowering, the plant is removed from the pot, and in early spring the seeds are sown again. But more often gardeners decorate their site, because with their magnificent decorativeness, the kiss is very simple to care for.
Regardless of where the flowering is planned, at home or on site, in February-March, flower growers sow seeds on seedlings. Since the plant comes from hot places, it will require a lot of heat and light for good development. But direct sunlight can cause burns on the leaves and significantly reduce decorativeness, so they have containers with seedlings, and then - and pots with grown plants, next to the windows of the south or south-west direction so that scattered light is enough. The flower does not like the flower of a comb-like draft, when installing the pot or planting it in a permanent place, this should be taken into account. Sensitive culture and to sudden temperature changes.
Choose a place for planting
Ideal for planting a plant is well-sheltered from a through wind and a sunlit area with a light loose neutral or slightly acidic soil. Heavy soils do not fit the culture: without air access to the roots, it will not develop well and wither. To these soils, large river sand is added. Not in the last place is the fertility of soils on the selected site. The best for celestial are chernozems, but also the usual garden ground, dug up with quality organic (compost or humus), is perfect for growing a flower.
Celosia comb: growing from seeds
Beginners of flower growers should remember that seed growing is the best way to reproduce a crop, since only with it all varietal characteristics are preserved. Therefore, it is preferred for the propagation of a plant such as comb-type intestine. Cultivation begins with a seedling stage. Pre-prepared containers are filled with a loose substrate, the seeds are sown in grooves with an interval of 1 cm, gently pricked and moistened with warm water from the spray gun. To create a more comfortable atmosphere, the containers are covered with glass or garden film, which are removed when sprouts appear.
In the room with seedlings provide the necessary conditions: maintain a constant temperature, high-quality lighting, sufficient humidity and ventilation. Diluted seedlings are dived, transplanted into separate containers. Culture is unpretentious and, with certain caution, transfers the transplant quite easily. The comb in the pot develops well, no worse than in the open flowerbed, so the growers often leave several copies of the plant for domestic cultivation.
Transplanting into the ground
Transplanting seedlings in the ground is carried out when the threat of spring frosts passes, because this southern culture is very sensitive even to insignificant recurrent cooling. Prepared and dug up soil in the garden where the transplant is supposed to be fertilized with humus and treated with a solution of manganese or peat-humic fertilizers for soil disinfection, since at the beginning the root system of seedlings is very vulnerable to bacteria and pests that can weaken or destroy a young plant. When planting plants take into account the presence of groundwater. If they approach close to the intended site, then it will be necessary to drain the soil beforehand. For this purpose, fine gravel, claydite or stone crumb will suit. The final stage of planting is the generous watering of young plants.
Blastocutaneous bladder: care
Caring procedures for the plant are not burdensome for the gardener. There are only a few necessary conditions, the fulfillment of which will ensure the qualitative development of culture and its abundant bright flowering.Care is reduced to ensuring air permeability of the soil, loosening and removal of weeds, as well as regular, but moderate watering. The main rule is the content of the soil layer in the wet state, avoid drying out or overmoistening. The optimal time of day for watering is either an early morning, or a calm evening hours, if the day comes excessive heat. Ideally suitable is the settled and warmed in the sun water.
Intensive flowering and preparation for it requires considerable strength and nutrition. Celosia is responsive to top dressing, which is carried out in small doses every two weeks. A proven and reliable method of application is an aqueous fertilizer solution, added to water for irrigation.Usually, complex mineral fertilizers (15-20 g / 1 m 2) are used, the assortment of which is very wide today. Their regular application will ensure a normal level of nutrients in the soil, not exceeding permissible and not depleting soil.
Diseases and pests
Often ignorant gardeners cause problems with the development of intestinal malnutrition, first of all, the error in carrying out irrigation. The most common disease associated with poor-quality care is the "black leg", which develops from the fungi in the soil, and devours the tender stems of young plants. Constant overmoistening provokes an ailment, and getting rid of it is difficult enough.
At the first signs of the appearance of this scourge it is necessary to stop watering, well to loosen the ground under the plants and mix it with wood ash, which will act as an adsorbent and maintain food. Such measures can help only at the very beginning of the defeat. Launched forms are incurable, highly damaged plants should be removed as soon as possible, since the disease is very contagious. It manifests itself in a weakened stem, a violation of sap flow and general wilting. Cellular blast at home also runs the risk of undergoing the described disease. It can also arise from insufficient ventilation of the room.
The omnipresent aphid, settling on the stems and apexes of plants, does not bypass the kiss. When these insects appear, solutions of insecticides are used, the concentration of which is regulated in accordance with the dosage indicated in the instructions attached to the means.
Deficiency of iron can be caused by the appearance of chlorosis. From it get rid of the treatment of plants with iron preparations.
So, all the necessary aspects on the cultivation of such a plant, as comb-type intactness, are covered. Growing and caring for her - simple operations, all efforts are more than compensated for by the magnificent flowering of sweet "scallops".
