In general, the bike is easy to roll on almost all gears (except for the fastest ones), so if pedaling is hard, the only way to ease it is to accelerate. Constant pedaling with great effort is fraught with complications in the knee area, so it is very treacherous to choose gears for riding. And if you can not go to a higher speed, you should immediately lower the gear. The average speed will not suffer, but the knees will be much easier.
