In the modern market there are a lot of newest building materials, but the most popular of them has been ordinary brick for many years. Safety, durability, beautiful appearance and the ability to retain heat for a long time are the main qualities of the product for which the consumer values it.

Before the start of construction of buildings, each developer tries to calculate the approximate costs of acquiring the main material, and for this he needs to determine the amount of material. At this stage it is important to know how many bricks in 1 m3 and what dimensions this product has. In this article, we will consider the main varieties of this material and their dimensions.

## Types of bricks and their sizes

In order to make the necessary calculations, you need to know the type of brick that will be used in the process of laying the walls. Having its parameters, you can determine how much brick is in the cube (pieces).

To date, there are three varieties of this material, differing in size:

Products of the first type are presented in the form of red or yellow ceramic bricks and have a fixed dimensions of 250 x 120 x 65 mm. This material is used in those cases where the walls need to give the most aesthetic appearance. Knowing its standard parameters, you can easily calculate the volume of one element, which will help to understand how many bricks in 1 m3. Bricks from the previous version is distinguished by a higher height. This group includes white (silicate) products, which are used in those cases when it is necessary to significantly accelerate the construction of the construction. The walls lined with such material are not attractive, so in most cases they are cladded. The standard size of sand-lime bricks is 250 x 120 x 88 mm. The volume of this product is 2640 cubic centimeters, so one cube contains 379 elements.

If the construction needs to be completed as soon as possible, a double brick is used. Its dimensions are 250 x 120 x 138, and the volume of one product is 4140 centimeters cubic. One cubic meter accommodates 255 pieces of bricks of this variety.

## Determine the number of bricks needed

Information on the necessary amount of building material allows you to avoid unnecessary costs to purchase unnecessary products and avoid downtime (in case of lack of building elements).

To correctly calculate how much brick in 1 m3 of brickwork, you need to consider that the elements are connected to each other with a solution. The thickness of the joints obtained has a direct effect on the amount of material used. Practice shows that the average thickness of the seam is 10-12 mm.

When performing work with such gaps, the brick walls will turn out to be strong, reliable and durable. With a decrease or increase in the thickness of the mortar, the strength will be significantly lower and a greater likelihood of deformation of the building will appear. Given these data, you can determine how much of the building stone will go to the cubic meter of masonry.

## Calculation of material taking into account the seam

How much brick includes a cubic meter without taking into account the solution, we already know. Now, by simple calculations, we determine the quantity of each type of brick in a cubic meter of the wall.

First, calculate how many single bricks in 1 m3 of masonry.

To do this, multiply all its dimensions and an average thickness of seam: 25 x 12 x 6.5 x 1.2 = 2340 cm 3. Knowing that one cubic meter is 1 million cubic centimeters, determine the number of bricks in 1 m 3 wall: 1000000 / 2340 = 427 items.

The number of double bricks is determined by the same principle:

- 25 x 12 x 13.8 x 1.2 = 4968 cm 3.
- 1000000/4968 = 201 bricks.

Knowing the size of the silicate brick, determine the number of sesquioxides in the cubic meter of the wall:

- 25 x 12 x 8.8 x 1.2 = 3168 cm 3.
- 1000000/3168 = 315 bricks.

Such calculations can be made with all construction materials having fixed dimensions.

## Do not forget about the stock

When building walls, the calculation of the building material is carried out in squares. Their number also depends on the dimensions of the product, the way the brick is laid and the chosen thickness of the seam.

At the stage of calculating the cost of construction, it is necessary to take into account the fact that some part of the material can be spoiled. Based on this, about 5% should be added to the final figure (obtained from the calculation of the required material).

If the laying of complex structures (arches, figured openings, etc.) is planned, the brick will need 10-15% more.

Using the example of single products, we determine how much material is required to build one square meter of the wall in half a brick.

- According to the dimensions known to us, we calculate the area of one element: 25 x 6.5 = 162.5 cm 2.
- Knowing that in one square meter of 10 thousand square centimeters, we perform the following calculations: 10000 / 162.5 = 61.5 pieces.

For one and a half pieces, the calculation example will look like this:

- 25 x 8.8 = 220 cm 2.
- 100000/200 = 45 bricks.

Similarly, the amount for double bricks is determined.

This principle of material calculation can be used for products of non-standard sizes. To do this, determine the area of the sidewall of the product, after which the square meter is divided by the value obtained. If during the calculation it is necessary to take into account the width of the seam between the elements, add 10-12 mm to their dimensions.

## How to calculate the amount of material taking into account the thickness of the wall

If we consider that bricklaying can be carried out in several ways and the thickness of the wall can also be different, the indicator of how many bricks in 1 m3 of structures can vary. When it comes to small amounts of work, this fact can be ignored. In large-scale construction, even the smallest miscalculations can lead to a shortage of material and to a halt in the entire process.

To understand how the final figure (the required number of bricks) varies depending on the thickness of the masonry, we need to know the total area of the wall.

Using the example of a single product, we determine how much red brick in m3 masonry walls, knowing that its length is 7 meters, height 3 meters, and width 510 cm:

- First you need to find the side area of the structure: 7 x 3 = 21 m 2.
- Having a wall thickness, we find its volume: 21 x 0.51 = 10.71 m 3.
- The known volume of one single brick (in cm 3) is translated in m 3. 1950/1000000 = 0.00195 m 3.
- Calculate the number of required bricks (dividing the wall by the volume of one brick): 10.71 / 0.00195 = 5492 bricks.

By the same principle, you can find out how much you need any products for building walls of various thicknesses.
