Polotsk State University in the Vitebsk region

It is considered that the Polotsk State University is the heir of the traditions of the oldest higher educational institution of Belarus - the Jesuit collegium, founded in 1581. At the beginning of the 19th century Alexander the First ordered him to be transformed into an academy. It was endowed with the rights enjoyed by the universities of the Russian Empire, and there was published the first in the territory of the modern Republic of Belarus literary and scientific journal Miesięcznik Połocki. In addition, this educational institution had a rich library, containing more than 50,000 volumes, as well as a museum, an astronomical hall, a chemical laboratory, a physical, mineralogical and mechanical study. It is also known that the Polotsk Academy operated a boarding school, where gifted but poor students lived and studied.

Faculties

Every year the number of people wishing to enter the Polotsk State University is growing. Faculties of this university offer training in 46 specialties. They are divided into profiles: financial, economic, technical, pedagogical and humanitarian. In the city of Polotsk, the faculties of information technology and historical and philological are based. And the latter is located in the ancient building of the Jesuit College. The rest of the faculties (geodesic, engineering, engineering, technology, historical and philological, radio engineering, engineering and automobile transport, sports and pedagogical, pre-university training, IT, financial and economic, legal and foreign students) are located in Novopolotsk.

Some statistics and information on the activities of the university

Polotsk State University has 500 teachers in its staff. Of these, 145 candidates and 17 doctors of science. The university has 75 multimedia and more than three dozen computer classrooms, which can accommodate 500 students at the same time.

The scientific "Vestnik" is published in the PGU, which is included in the list of Belarusian scientific publications intended to publish the results of the research done in the process of writing the dissertations.

Polotsk State University, being a continuer of the traditions of the Jesuit Academy, founded the Museum of Science and Education of Polotsk, in which it is possible to get acquainted with the exhibits dedicated to people who have done a lot for the development of higher education in Belarus.

Scientific activity

The Polotsk State University seeks to engender in students an interest in independent research activities. They can present their works at a conference, the results of which are published in the collection "Proceedings of Young Specialists of the PGU".

In addition, there are 9 scientific schools in the university. Their research finds practical application in many branches of the economy of the Republic of Belarus. Of particular interest are developments in IT and information security.

Polotsk College of the Vitebsk State University

Before the October revolution operated in the city Teacher's Seminary. In the summer of 1919 it was converted into a permanent 3-year pedagogical courses, and then in the national College with 4-year training period. After 17 years, the school received the status of the school, which subsequently was named Skarina.

After Belarus gained independence, it was reorganized into a pedagogical college, and in 2005 it became part of the VSU.

In the UO "Polotsk State University" a large number of out-of-town students are studying. Moreover, according to the data for 2012-2013 academic year, 185 foreign citizens were studying there.

For their placement at the university there are several hostels:

№ 2. Address: city Novopolotsk, st. Youth, 49 b. There are gyms, study rooms and a buffet. Students of machine-building, financial-economic, engineering-construction, sports-pedagogical, legal and engineering-technological faculties live.

No. 3. It is located in Novopolotsk (Yubileinaya str., 5). Designed for students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

№ 4. It is located in Novopolotsk on Komsomolskaya street (building 18). Students who study at the financial, economic, radio engineering, engineering, construction and law faculties live.

No. 5 Address: Novopolotsk, Blokhina Street, building 17. Designed for students of financial, economic, historical, philological, law and information technologies.

№ 6. This is the only hostel of the PSU, which is located in the city of Polotsk. Address: st. Sverdlov, 21. Residents of students studying in the former building of the Jesuit Academy, and the Faculty of Information Technology.

How to get there

To reach the buildings located in the city of Novopolotsk, from the railway and bus stations, you should take the bus number 5, 10 and get to the stop "Molodezhnaya". As already mentioned, two faculties of the university are located in Polotsk. They can be reached by buses No. 2, 4, 1, 26 and 27, following the bus stop "City Executive Committee" from the city bus station.
