Catfish is considered one of the largest fish that live in our water bodies. Fishing for him requires special skill, because this representative of the water fauna is not only cunning, but also very strong. It is not every fisherman who can pull a decent specimen out of the water. However, there is one ancient fishing construction invented by our great-grandfathers, which allows us to hunt catfish, without requiring the fisherman either special tricks or strength. It is called a saber, or a somovnik. This tackle on the catfish has an unusually simple design, and its efficiency is much higher than other catfish gear. It is about the somovnik that will be discussed in this article.

What is the perimeter

Fishing lanes were used even in the times of Kievan Rus. They were used to catch both "peaceful fish" and predatory. The tackle itself is a long rope, on which leashes with hooks are fastened. The rope is stretched on a certain section of the reservoir and fixed to the stakes that are hammered into the bottom or to some kind of anchors, which are usually large stones. Naturally, to install this tackle requires a boat.

Catcher on the catfish

Fishing for a perch does not require any control on the part of the angler, nor even his presence. It is enough to stretch out the tackle from the evening, fix it, plant a bait, and in the morning you can come for a catch. Agree, a fairly convenient tackle for our fishermen. And no matter how big and strong the catfish are, if it is done reliably, by the morning the fish will not have enough strength even to greet you with the blows of the tail on the water.

What does the tackle consist of?

Now let's take a closer look at the design of the somnovnik. Tackle a saber's catcher consists of:

  • long (a long strong rope), which is the basis of tackle;
  • leashes, the number of which depends on the length of the long;
  • hooks;
  • loading (one or more lead cargoes);
  • floats.

The extension may be made of any strong cord or rope with a diameter of 3 to 6 mm. Often the usual clothesline is used for this purpose.

A catfish can have as many leashes as possible. Their number depends on the length of the base (long). The length of the leashes is usually 0.5-0.7 m, depending on the conditions of fishing. They knit at a distance of 1-1.5 m from each other.

As for hooks, their choice should be approached, focusing on the shape and size of the bait. Most often, these are forged items with the size of No. 6-12 according to the national classification with an elongated forearm.

Considering that the overflight is a bottom tackle on the catfish, it must necessarily be loaded. To do this, use lead loads. The weight of the load must correspond to the intensity of the flow. In other words, the tackle must remain in place.

Floats are necessary for the most part as a guide, so that the fisherman does not look for a place for a long time, where he installed the saddle. But they are often used to lift the tackle over the bottom, especially in places where it is covered with stones or driftwood.

How to make a handful with your own hands

Now let's figure out how to make a dolmboard. By the way, fishing today can be bought not only in the market, but in any specialized store. But is there any sense in buying something, if this can be done with our own hands with a penny-and-dime cost?

Let's start with the longest. As already mentioned, in its quality a strong cord or rope can act. As for the length, it is better to mount a catfish on small bodies of water, fixing its ends on opposite banks. If you want to fish on the reservoir, determine the required length, based on the conditions of fishing.

Leashes are made of woven fishing line with a thickness of at least 0.5 mm. They can be tied to the rope in advance at a distance of 1-1.5 m from each other, or you can do it directly on the pond after fixing the length.

But that's not all, since taking a sundown is only half the battle. In addition, it will be necessary to make a device for which the dolphin will be wound up, since it is not very convenient to transport a rope with leashes attached to it and hooks.

Most often the reel is wound on a reel, cut from a board, a thick foam, or curved from a wire. You can also reel the strawberries on a piece of plastic or cardboard pipe. Hooks in this case are shrouded by pieces of foam.

It is necessary to load the tackle on the spot, having determined the current and depth of the reservoir. Floats are usually cut out of a piece of foam and tied to a long one also after its installation.

That's basically it. As you can see, there is no complexity in manufacturing and installation. And it is better, if in your arsenal there will be several somons. This will significantly increase the probability of returning home with a catch.

When catch catfish on the sidewalk

Unlike other predators, the catfish shows the highest activity in the summer. You can catch it on the river from the end of May, but the most active biting occurs in July. Since September, its activity will decline, and by the end of October the biting will stop.

The best time of day for fishing on a catfish is night. At night, he emerges from his "house" in search of food, rising from the depths closer to the surface. Late evening and early morning can also be catchy, especially after a thunderstorm rain. During these periods the catfish has an excellent appetite.

Where to catch catfish on the sidewalk

A catfish is not put on a catfish in its habitats. This is due to the fact that this fish lives on the deepest parts of the reservoir, and often also zakoryazhennyh. Tack installed near the alleged placement of catfish dwellings, as well as places where the predator is feeding.

These can be coastal areas of the reservoir with a reverse current, shallow creeks, rich in frogs, bottom benches with abundant vegetation, crooked pits, etc.

The best lures for catfish

As a bait on the catcher when catching catfish, use:

  • a large worm (creep);
  • a live bait;
  • pieces of fish;
  • frogs;
  • small birds with pre-scorched feathers;
  • bird and fish offal;
  • meat of river mussels;
  • large leeches;
  • and others.

A good bait can also be pieces of rotten meat or dirty crayfish. It is desirable to catch catfish on a perch, using not one kind of baits, but several, that is, on one tackle, alternating, there were different baits.

How to put a litter on a catfish

There are a lot of options for installing the overflight. On a small river put the tackle, fixing the ends of the longest on opposite banks, loading it in the middle and slightly lifting the floats on the sides. This option will allow you to "block" the site at different depths. It is also possible not to drop the perimeter to a greater depth, but leave it in the middle of the water or near its surface. This option is used for catching a frog. The lure is planted on the thigh and, floating on the surface of the water, creates splashes, attracting a predator.

On large reservoirs, you can put a perimeter along a steep bank or on shaded shallow areas, fixing it with hammered stakes.

To adjust the required depth, foam floats are used, which are attached at a certain distance to the length. They raise the tackle and hold it in the desired position. The cargo is also mounted to the longest, but lastly, when the tackle has already been adjusted in depth.

Check the availability of the catch

If the tackle was installed in the evening, check it better after sunrise. The fisherman swims out on the boat to the site, and, focusing on the floats, raises the long. If the fish is on the hook, it goes into the boat to the fisherman. By the way, it is advisable to have a special sharpened hagoroclast to dislodge the catfish from the water. With his help, the fish cling to the lip, and hold until it is in a boat or a cage. Bagoric is designed to preserve your catch.

If there are no fish on the hooks of the overflight, it is necessary to check the nozzles, update them and, if desired, continue fishing. In the event that there is no such desire, the tackle is dismantled, having untied it on the one hand, winding it on reel.

Some useful tips for catching catfish

So we figured out how to catch a catfish on a perimeter. Finally, here are some useful tips to help you make fishing as successful as possible.

  1. Making a sidearm with your own hands, try to find a long cord for a long string or a rope. The base of the tackle, connected from pieces, will facilitate entanglement of the structure.
  2. Choosing hooks on catfish, give preference to forged models, perhaps, even self-made.
  3. Before each fishing on the peremet check the condition of the hooks and, if necessary, remove rust from them, and also sharpen them with a small file or emery paper.
  4. Store and transport the saddle only with shrouded hooks.
  5. Putting a sail from a boat is much more convenient for two: one tackles, the other manages the boat.
  6. When installing a dolphin on a river with a fast current, do not load it so that the leashes lie on the bottom, especially if it is stony or crooked.
  7. Do not put a saddle on the deep-seated areas, as well as in places where there are fallen trees. Hooked on the hook, the catfish will try to tangle in the snags and cut off the snap.
  8. Always use several moves, setting them in different areas.
  9. Use several types of nozzles for one peretem. Food preferences of catfish can vary several times a day.
  10. Do not be discouraged if the first time to catch a trophy catfish did not work. Next time I'll be lucky!
