The supply of fishing equipment with a correctly selected hook can be called the key to successful fishing. Each element of the equipment contributes to the efficiency of the process, but the hook is the most crucial part of the kit. The attention of fishermen, especially beginners, is mainly focused on the material of manufacture and the dimensions of this component. And this approach is justified, especially since modern manufacturers use increasingly more sophisticated metals and special coatings. But the form of the element still has decisive importance. And in this respect, offset hooks can be attributed to the most exotic models. Their non-standard configuration, however, allows you to cope with fishing tasks where other types of hooks are useless. But the exploitation of offseters requires certain knowledge.
Features of offset hooks
At the first glance at the offset hook, its only significant but significant difference rushes into the eyes - a zigzag of the forehead is provided at the top. It was thanks to the double bend that the model was called "hook with fold". In addition to this constructive difference, it should be noted that, in comparison with classic single products, offset hooks are larger. It is quite logical to ask what the step-wise geometry is due to. It is thanks to this feature that many Russian fishermen learned how to use bait more rationally without losing it in snags. Hence, in fact, and the second name of the hook - "neklelyayka." However, in the traditional equipment such a model is ineffective. It behaves well under water in thickets and other problem areas, but from the point of view of pecking seriously inferior to classical models. But much depends on the bait and the way fishing.
Technique for planting bait
It is important to understand that offseters were created for the silicone bait, it could be rubber worms or twisters. Installation begins with a puncture of the chosen bait obliquely. Then it moves to a step, after which it is necessary to try on the position of the sting and stick it into the bait in such a way that it enters inside. However, the question of how to plant an offset hook is not so simple, since the bait should be placed under certain conditions. The fact is that it is recommended to place the stinger in relation to the bait surface at a 40-degree angle. As experts note, this is the optimal position, in which the fish can easily swallow the spoon, after which the sting will come out of the twister. The result is a design that has minimal chances of hooking in an unnecessary place under water.
Round or straight?
The traditional offset printer has a straight forehead. The rounds appeared later and today are called the wide gap. Actually, they are known even more than direct models. And there are reasons for this. Especially round offset hooks are preferable in Russia, as the range of baits used by domestic fishermen is better combined with them. For example, a classic hook with a shift is effectively used with thin long worms, and models with rounded geometry approach short and thick silicone baits. In particular, it is recommended to use tiubs and slugs. The same twister in large size with a wide gap hook is combined organically, since the stinger also sits correctly, and the gap from the bottom of the bait to the hook turns out to be larger. Ultimately, this combination contributes to a greater number of realized bites.
How does the hook work?
Relatively problem bait attachment is done for a reason. It is the conclusion that stings in the body of silicone increases the chances for the realization of the bead. This feature distinguishes fishing with the help of offseters from jig, which is supposed to release an acute tooth outward. Further it is worth noting that the silicone bait on the offset hook effectively operates on the perch. This affects the relationship of this fish with the bass, for which the offset is calculated. If you take a model of a small size, then with the biting of the sting out of the mouth cavity outward, return back, and then again come out on the outside. It is difficult to understand the mechanics of this intricate manipulation, but in any case it guarantees that the fish will not break, and this is another advantage of the offset hook.
Assembly of equipment
Among the rigs that can be used with offset hooks, it is often called Texas. But in the original version, it is not very effective, especially as there are more successful solutions, including a modification of this method of rigging. For example, the installation of an offset hook can be performed using a conventional eared ball of lead. To begin with, one of its ears should be rotated by 90 °, and then use the winding ring to build in the hook. In this case, the ball replaces the classic Texas "bullet", which increases the risk of a hitch, but otherwise makes fishing more efficient. The main thing is to correctly correlate the dimensions of the hook eye and the wire from the ring. The optimum diameter of the latter should be such that two turns can pass into the eye of the offseter.
In what cases is an open stinger justified?
Against the background of the popularization of leash rigs, enthusiasts experience offset models in such configurations. And just in this version, it makes sense not to hide the sting in the bait, but leave it open. On the one hand, this is true, but if fishing is perched, then the utility of the outer sting is questioned. The fact is that the bait on the offset hook for this fish does not present any difficulties when eaten and easily breaks, that is, the perch itself is planted on the sting. Nevertheless, practice shows that the fish is not afraid of an open pointed tip, but a successful hitch is not guaranteed. In this regard, the release of the sting can increase the number of bites, but only if it is not only about fishing for perch and similar large trophies.
Despite the non-standardity of offseters, they have long and firmly established the practice of Russian fishermen. Even if the original geometry, which have offset hooks, for users does not matter, the shape features make themselves felt in the process of catching. For example, today few of the fans of the wide gap rulers know that this configuration originated from the concept of hooks with a shift. Another thing is that over time this modification has become isolated and has become a separate species. Perhaps more efficient than the traditional direct offset. But there is still considerable demand for the classics. Especially among spinners, who emphasize the use of silicone baits. Ease of use, reliability in handling under water and high rates of realized bites - these are the main arguments in favor of fishing with offset hooks.
