The supply of fishing equipment with a properly selected hook can be called the key to successful fishing. Each piece of equipment contributes to the efficiency of the process, but the hook is the most important part of the kit. The attention of fishermen, especially beginners, is mainly focused on the material of manufacture and dimensions of this component. And this approach is justified, especially as modern manufacturers use more and more technological metals and special coatings. But crucial is still the shape of the element. And in this regard, offset hooks can be attributed to the most exotic models. Their non-standard configuration, however, allows you to cope with fishing tasks where other types of hooks are useless. But the operation of offset sets requires some knowledge.
Features Offset Hooks
At the first glance at the offset hook, its only but quite significant difference catches the eye - a zigzag forend is provided in the upper part. It is thanks to the double bend model and received the name "hook with a bend." In addition to this structural difference, it is worth noting that, in comparison with the classic single-piece products, offset hooks have larger sizes. The question of what caused the step geometry is quite logical. It is thanks to this feature that many Russian fishermen have learned how to use the bait more rationally without losing it in the snags. Hence, in fact, the second name of the hook - “non-chick”. However, in the traditional snap such a model is ineffective. It behaves well under water in the thickets and other problem areas, but in terms of poklev it is seriously inferior to the classical models. But a lot depends on the bait and the way of fishing.
It is important to understand that they were created for silicone bait, it can be rubber worms or twisters. Installation begins with a puncture of the selected bait diagonally. Then she moves to the step, after which it is necessary to try on the position of the sting and stick it into the bait so that it goes inside. However, the question of how to fit the offset hook is not so simple, because the bait should be placed under certain conditions. The fact is that the sting against the surface of the bait is recommended to be placed at a 40-degree angle. According to experts, this is the optimal position in which the fish can easily swallow the pod, after which the sting will come out of the twister. The result is a design that has minimal chances of a hook in an unnecessary place under water.
Round or straight?
Traditional Offset has a direct handguard. The rounds appeared later and today are called wide gap. Actually, they are known even more than direct models. And there are reasons for this. Especially round offset hooks are preferable in Russia, since the range of lures used by domestic fishermen is best combined with them. For example, the classic hook with a shift is effectively used with thin long worms, and models with rounded geometry are suitable for short and thick silicone lures. In particular, it is recommended to apply tjuby and weak. The same twister on a large scale with a wide gap hook is organically combined, as the sting correctly sits, and the gap from the bottom of the bait to the hook is larger. Ultimately, such a combination contributes to a greater number of bites realized.
How does the hook work?
Relatively problematic bait attachment is done for a reason. It is the conclusion of the sting in the body of silicone increases the chances for the implementation of pokleva. This feature distinguishes fishing from offset jigs from jig, which is supposed to release a sharp tooth out. Further, it is worth noting that the silicone bait on the offset hook effectively works on the perch. It affects the relationship of the fish with the bass, which is designed for fishing offset. If you take a model of a small size, then with a peck, the sting will come out of the mouth, come back, and then come out on the outside again. Understand the mechanics of this intricate manipulation is difficult, but in any case, it ensures that the fish will not break, and this is another advantage of the offset hook.
Among the snap-ins that can be used with offset hooks, often referred to as Texas. But in the original performance it is not very effective, especially since there are more successful solutions, including those representing a modification of this method of tooling. For example, the installation of the offset hook can be performed using a regular eared ball of lead. To begin with, one of the ears should be rotated 90 °, and then use the winding ring to build a hook. In this case, the ball replaces the classic Texas “bullet”, which increases the risk of a hook, but otherwise makes fishing more efficient. The main thing is to correctly correlate the size of the hook ear and the wire from the ring. The optimum diameter of the latter should be such that two turns could pass into the eye of the offset lamp.
When is an open sting justified?
Against the background of popularization of snap-ons, enthusiasts are experiencing offset models in such configurations. And just in this version it makes sense not to hide the sting in the bait, but leave it open. On the one hand, this is true, but if it is caught on a perch, then the expediency of the outer tip is questioned. The fact is that the bait on the offset hook for this fish does not present any difficulties in eating and easily makes its way, that is, the perch sits on the sting itself. Nevertheless, as practice shows, the fish is not afraid of an open sharp tip, and a successful hook is not guaranteed. In this regard, the release of the sting can increase the number of bites, but only if it is not only about perch fishing and similar large trophies.
With all the irregularities of off-sets, they have long been firmly established in the practice of Russian fishermen. Even if the original geometry, which the offset hooks possess, does not matter for the users, the shape features make themselves felt in the process of fishing. For example, today, few of the wide gap line fans know that this configuration originated from the concept of hooks with a shift. Another thing is that over time, this modification has become isolated and become a separate species. Perhaps more effective than the traditional direct offset. But there remains considerable demand for the classics. Especially among spinningists who emphasize the use of silicone baits. Ease of use, reliability in handling under water and high rates of realized bites - these are the main arguments in favor of fishing with offset hooks.
