Speaking about education in Belarus, one can not but pay attention to such an educational institution as the Grodno State University. Yanka Kupala. How was the university created?

The beginning of such an institution, as Grodno State University. Yanka Kupala, was laid with the approval in this region of Soviet power. Recall that the territory of Western Belarus in the interwar period belonged to the Polish state and the development of independent education for the Eastern Slavs was out of the question. But in 1939 these lands pass under the leadership of the USSR, and almost immediately the new government is taking up the task of correcting this problem. So, in 1940 the Grodno Teachers' Institute was opened, which in the future will turn into the Grodno State University. Yanka Kupala.

Grodno State University

Short life of the teacher's institute

Initially, the university had three branches, the Belarusian language and literature, the Russian language and literature, the Department of Technical Sciences. The main goal of this institution was to train teachers for newly created secondary schools with Belarusian and Russian languages of instruction. But it was not necessary to function for a long time. With the occupation in 1941, the educational institution was closed, as, indeed, most of the schools for the local population.

Grodno Pedagogical Institute - predecessor of the University

After the liberation of Western Belarus, its full restoration could not have occurred without the restoration of a higher school in the region. Therefore, in 1944 the Grodno Teacher's Institute was revived, only under the name Grodno Pedagogical Institute. In parallel with some reorganization, the old structure of the educational institution was preserved: the newly created institute had three faculties, among them physics and mathematics, literary and foreign languages. Then the first branches for correspondence education are opened.

Another milestone in the history of the university was the mid-50's. It is marked both by the general reorganization of the institute and by the active struggle of the teaching staff for the rights of the Belarusian language. It was at this time that the future Grodno State University Yanka Kupala (GrSU) was named after the great Belarusian poet of the pre-war period. During the reorganization, a number of new faculties were opened, which still exist today.

In 1978, the Pedagogical Institute was transformed into the State University of Grodno, as we know it today. Grodno State University. Yanka Kupala became the first higher educational institution in the history of Western Belarus, and its opening greatly influenced the further cultural and scientific development of the region.

GrSU is the pride of the country. The quality of education is noted both at the international level (the rating of Belarusian universities Webometrics, which put the Yanka Kupala Grodno State University on the second place in the country's universities) and local.
