Surely everyone has heard about such a concept as decorative processing of materials. One such type is MDF laminated. Currently, it is often used in many areas of production, for example, in the manufacture of doors, furniture, etc.

What is lamination? It is a kind of decorative processing of plates. It is designed to decorate the product, and also contributes to improving the technical and operational properties of the material. Laminated MDF panel deservedly took the leading position among other building materials.

Laminated MDF: general concept

Plates MDF are more modern and high-tech products in comparison with their predecessors. In the process of their manufacture, only modernized technologies are used now. The basis of such material is the waste of woodworking production. And also non-timber, which because of its poor quality is not suitable for high-end products.

The appearance of this material allows you to significantly ennoble the products, giving them luxury and wealth. A vivid example of this are MDF doors laminated. What is MDF laminated? Manufacturing technology, advantages and disadvantages of laminated MDF

The technology of manufacturing laminated MDF

The manufacturing process of MDF is as follows. Special chippers grind all raw materials in the chips. Then the resulting mass is poured with hot steam under high pressure, which makes the material much softer. Thereafter, the blank is adjusted to a certain consistency. During this process, the wood fibers released lignin (natural binding agent). The final step is drying, pressing and gluing.

In order for the finished products was laminated, with its front surface subjected to additional processing. Why do you need this process? Lamination is done to the material to impart additional properties, that is, to make the most resistant to moisture and all sorts of wears. In pursuit of this goal, on a sheet may cause a paper-resin or melamine film, which contains a special binder composition. After that, MDF is subjected to heat treatment. Such technological effects lead to certain chemical reactions. Thanks to them, the composition located on the surface of the films permeates the sheet. When starting the polymerization of the resin which forms the surface layer (it is not separated from the finished product), it is a laminated MDF.

With regard to the technical characteristics of this material, thanks to modern technology, it is extremely resistant to high humidity and the impact of a variety of chemicals. It is the laminated layer that prevents the reproduction of all kinds of fungus or mold.

Advantages and disadvantages of MDF

It is clear that each material has its pros and cons. Laminated MDF is no exception. Of its main advantages is to provide a hygienic acceptable cost, especially in comparison with natural wood, environmentally friendly. In addition, this material has high sound and thermal insulation properties. A wide range of colors allows to realize different design ideas. And finally, the biggest advantage is easy to assemble, install laminated MDF easy enough, it does not need to possess special skills.

Regarding the minuses, they are little. Special attention deserves the low level of fire resistance and relatively large weight plates. This may be some limitations in the use of this material. It is also worth to note that when exposed to high temperatures, the top layer of MDF peels off.

The cost of panels made of laminated MDF

Despite the fact that laminated MDF has excellent mechanical and performance characteristics, its price is not so high when compared with other products of wood. A special manufacturing process of MDF, in which it is customary to use non-business wood (low entry price) or waste wood, has a significant impact on generation costs. This material is a different thickness and sizes, which, in turn, are displayed in monetary terms.

Laminated MDF (the price starts from 300 rubles and above) can be purchased at any specialized store.
