Today the style of a brutal man has come into fashion. Other female representatives simply choke with lust, pronouncing this definition to the address of some representative of the male part of the Homosapiens unit. Meanwhile, the word “brutality” is not only a synonym for masculinity. Actually, it is necessary to study in more detail the history of the origin of this unit of speech.
Masculinity and brutality
These are the two words that are associated with pronounced distinctive features belonging to males. Rather, masculinity is a combination of mental and somatic, as well as behavioral factors that distinguish males from females, and men - from the weak, tender sex. The concept of "brutality" is much broader.
Unfortunately, most people, faced with this word in everyday life, stop at this stage. They mistakenly believe that “masculinity” and “brutality” are synonymous. Masculinity, expressed in the guise of a person - only a part of this concept.
The meaning of the word "brutality"
Most linguists are inclined to believe that the concept of "brutal man" includes such properties as cruelty, rudeness, inhumanity, stupidity, treachery, even bestiality. If you follow this semantic series of synonyms, you can draw the appearance of a person. She will be as close as possible to a marginal homeless person whose lifestyle is asocial.
That is, brutality is not only the appearance of a courageous person. This concept includes a behavioral factor, a lifestyle that does not comply with generally accepted morality.
The etymology of the word "brutality" (according to historians)
There are several options for the origin of this language unit. For example, historians dwell on the fact that “brutality” is a derivative of Brutus. According to legend, that was the name of the treacherous murderer Julius Caesar, whom the latter considered to be his friend. Marcus Junius Brutus became the head of the conspirators and first plunged a dagger into his body.
Proceeding from this historical fact, treachery and betrayal began to denote brutality. The meaning of the word, of course, is much broader. After all, there are other linguistic sources that could, according to linguists, give life to “brutality”.
Latin, French, German and Old Slavonic roots
Similar sounding words are enough in many different languages. For example, brutalis in Latin means "carnal, animal," "unreasonable animal." And brutus translates as "rough, stupid, heavy, clumsy."
And the French word brutal means far from sexy handsome. And it is not clear why many ladies believe that it is precisely these qualities that determine brutality. The meaning of the word brutal, according to linguists, is more mundane, it is “rudeness” and “bestiality”.
The translation of the German word Brutalität, which sounds in the Russian version as “brutalitet” will be the words “rudeness”, “hardness”, “cruelty”, “violence”, “insensitivity”, “atrocity”.
And it completely surprises the Old Slavic version of the history of the origin of "brutality". It turns out that the word "brood" in its outdated form was used as "brute". In the Ukrainian and Belarusian languages it still exists today and means nothing more than ... dirt!
“Brutality” - neologism or archaism?
At first glance, the word has received particular popularity recently. And most linguists tend to attribute it to the category of neologisms - new words.
However, it has been used for a long time. For example, Shakespeare has an episode where Polonius tells Hamlet that he played Caesar, and Brutus killed him. To which he receives the answer: "It was very brutal on his part to kill such a calf." Here the word is used in the sense of "cruel", "inhuman".
Lenin also used this language unit in his works, characterizing the personality of Stalin. He called his successor overly brutal, attributing this quality to vice.
The term “brutality” has a definition that refers to a specific architectural style that was developed in the third quarter of the twentieth century. In this variant, the semantics of the definition is based on coarse perceptibility, the use of the natural texture of building materials, the underlined weight of forms.
In computer games, the word brutality (“brutality”) means brutal beating of the enemy, and already at the end of the battle. The process ends with a blow of such strength that the enemy scatters in all directions with pieces and splashes. This is the clearest example of “brutality”.
Aestheticization of the concept
An artificial areola of admiration for character traits and external signs related to the appearance of a brutal person is created by cinema and fashionable images of celebrities. Underlined severity bordering on aggression, harsh naturalism, composure, rudeness, sharpness of manners - these are the main components of the image of a brutal personality.
Heroes of militants basically correspond to these parameters. Powerful muscles, scars, belligerence, unkempt hair and clothing, two-day stubble as opposed to fine mental organization, honesty and decency conquer the hearts of not only women, but also men. Although, to be completely honest, everyone understands that combining the incompatible in one person is almost impossible.
